Anyone else remember passing through here the first time thinking a huge boss was about to pop up?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 08:21 AM PST

"Well done... Sekiro."When I first experienced this moment, I felt like my dad was telling me he was proud of me.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 10:36 AM PST

    Finally....but what next?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 07:24 PM PST

I loved this game, I wish DLC was being developed.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:32 PM PST

Miyazaki has already moved on to Elden Ring, but I still feel bad that this game never got any expansions or DLC.

All the Dark souls, and Bloodborne, got DLC within a year of their release. Some of FromSofts best areas and challenges came from these DLCs. But with Sekiro, the game just seemed to come and go in only a few months. Probably due to the lack of online, but the game still feels short lived compared to previous From games. I think it deserved more content.

Five minutes into playing the game

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:27 PM PST

I love it already. Being a huge Souls fan I decided to give this game a go. The combat is amazing fun, it's tough and the art style is great. I can't believe I waited so long to play this.

    I finally beat Seven Spear

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 10:07 AM PST

Holy Fuck. Been stuck on him all week. I knew he was optional but after all the grief he caused me I didn't want to progress any further until I beat him. And I did it. After an absurd amount of tries. I only used my Axe and deflects. I didn't cheese at all. Fighting bosses really is like dancing in this game.

After I beat him I whispered to myself "wow.. I'm the shit".: now to get my ass handed to me by the Swordsman in that cave

Finally, Got lucky with the second ressurection and the worst try in the recent close ones got me through Genchiro. Gave up the hit and run dark souls startegy and then took 40 long and intense minutes of getting better to become the most anxious and then satisfying boss battle i have played.

    Headless Ape (and co)

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 11:34 PM PST

So just thought I'd post this tip to see if it helps anyone else, but I'd definitely suggest when fighting the headless ape (2nd time), during the 2nd phase a lot of tutorials suggest to to just take out the brown ape first then the headless ape, but I found it much easier to just ignore the brown ape and just go for the headless ape trying to avoid the brown ape.

I kinda done things backwards where I ventured to the hidden forest before I had actually beaten the guardian ape. So I ended up being able to rest at the hidden forest idol and could then get the jump on the headless ape. He's so slow to get up and turn around to begin with that you can pretty much take out half a health bar with the right moves.

How'd everyone else find this boss fight? I found it quite hard until I worked this out.

I can’t believe I’m still playing this game.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:40 PM PST

I haven't played the same game repeatedly since I was a child. I platinumed Sekiro in August this year yet it still has me coming back; It's truly a testament to Fromsoft and I feel a little sad moving on. But it's time.

What have you moved on to since putting Sekiro down?

Thank you all for being an awesome community, often not something I can say about most reddit subs I'm a part of.

    Strange girl

On the stone that takes you to the divine dragon fight, there is a girl. So we have any inclination about who the girl is or who it could be?

After many months and oh so many deaths, its finally time

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:56 PM PST

How often should I cure Dragonrot, and which NPCs have good enough side-quests to make me want to cure theirs?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:51 PM PST

So far I have the dragonrot charm thing Emma gave me, around 2-3 droplets, and like 10 people with dragonrot. I know they can't die from it, but was wondering when I should cure it, because I have no idea if I'm missing out on good side-quests and rewards. Minor spoilers are fine. Also, is there a penalty to never using a droplet?

The Controversy Behind Mizuko Kuyo: Why the Jizos on Senpou Mountain aren't just Memorials

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 07:14 AM PST

So I'm sure by now that most people are aware of the Jizos and pinwheels at Senpou Temple and the purpose they are supposed to serve, but there is another way to interpret them. For those who aren't familiar, Jizos and Pinwheels are commonly associated with a ritual in Japan that is known as Mizuko Kuyo. Roughly meaning "Water Child Memorial Service", the ritual was originally brought about as a way for women who lost children, particularly through miscarriage or abortion, to grieve the loss of their child. The ritual involves dressing up a Jizo statue so that the Jizo may protect their child after death. The dressing of the Jizo usually involves the inclusion of a red cap and pinwheel to protect the Jizo's head, while the cape is given since Jizo is said to hide the children under his cape to shelter them. Ultimately, the ritual is meant as a kind of memorial to the lost child and a way for the parents of the child to grieve. This is why many believe that their presence at Senpou Temple is meant as a memorial for the children lost to their experiments and as a way to atone for killing so many, but there is more nuance to it.

You see, Mizuko Kuyo as a formal practice has actually only become common fairly recently, around the 1970's. There have been offerings to Jizos long before that, but there is debate about what good the ritual serves. The reason for the debate is that, in another show of the greed that seems to always be associated with Japanese monks, many corrupt monks would use the ritual as a chance to extort huge donations from the grieving mothers. They would make claims that would suggest that a larger monetary donation would somehow guarantee their child's safety in the afterlife. It's a horrible practice, but it's not uncommon to find people suggesting similar things during the funeral process in other religions as well. Given that we know of the greed of the Senpou monks and their desire to fund their research above all else, this paints a different picture of the memorials at Senpou. The Senpou Monks could have been using the memorials to profit off of the grieving parents of the children they killed. After all, right next to them is the bridge where they have put the parent of one of the children to work as a guard, why wouldn't they try to exploit the other grieving parents as well?

That being said, we know that the Senpou monks eventually closed off access to the temple and had to resort to "spiriting away" new test subjects for their experiments but it's easy to imagine a time where they were taking offerings for these lost children while they were peddling their sugars. This also doesn't mean that the Jizos couldn't still serve as memorials, we know that at least a few of the monks at Senpou had regrets involving the process and a memorial started to honor the children could have then been later corrupted by the monks who found a way to profit off of it. In the real world as well, the ritual is meant to help those who are grieving and the amount of corrupt monks is far outweighed by those who are simply trying to help. I just wanted to show that the memorial at Senpou might be more nuanced than it first appears, just like most things in Sekiro.

I hope you enjoyed this quick write-up. For those who have been patiently waiting, I am working on some more Sekiro folklore videos that I will be able to post soon so I hope you look forward to those as well.

    I did it!

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 08:49 PM PST

I feel like every new boss was harder and every previous boss/ phase of a boss was easier, so that I was catching myself being angry at a previous instance of a boss, who was suddenly becoming just a hurdle in a process of finishing the game, you know.

Spear phase of Isshin Ashina was the hardest for me.

I remember having a discussion with one of my friends, who didn't understand the role of a conductor in an orchestra. It took just a smear of a glance at Fextralife's video of how to defeat second phase of Isshinn Ashina and it just clicked. Couple of tries later I did it...

    What a feeling!

(SPOILER) At the risk of sounding like a complete scrub, isn’t it at least a *bit* absurd that after finally defeating Genichiro...

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 08:36 PM PST

...he has a third phase, with a new moveset and a new mechanic introduced in lightning deflect?

Don't get me wrong, the boss fight itself and the learning process is really fun. But what's sucked the fun out of it for me is that to even have the oppurtunity to fight Tomoe Gen, I first have to beat two phases of Ashina Gen, who is already among the most difficult bosses I've faced so far. It would be reasonable if Way of Tomoe was triggered after only one death blow, or if all three phases were regular Genichiro, but the way it is right now I'm just not enjoying it.

Just to be clear, I'm writing this after getting through the first two phases with no hits taken, only to be one-shot by lightning in the third phase. So at this point I'm doing what's essentially busywork to get to another boss, with a whole new mechanic that I have no idea how it works, and is risky to even try anything with. I love the process of dying again and again and figuring out a boss's patterns, but right now that opportunity to practice is locked behind, again, busywork. I've not yet died as many times as I might've to Defiled Amygdala in Bloodborne, or Oda Nobunaga in Nioh, but those fights felt fair and fun to try again and again, no matter how difficult. I would try this one more times too, but now it just feels like I'm grinding away the first two phases over and over again to die, which has sapped the enjoyment out of what is otherwise such an amazing feeling battle.

Yes I know, git gud. But gitting gud is usually fun for me. I just want to know I'm not crazy for thinking this is a bit unreasonable. Ashina Gen can barely touch me anymore, so why do I still have to beat him everytime, if I'll end up dying in the end to this whole new lightning thing, and do it all again? Feels hopeless and tedious, but I'll try again tomorrow.
