I'm so bad at the game I caught Dragonrot.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:11 PM PST

Got the game for Christmas and started playing it. I should note that I am very, very bad at it and die a lot. It looks like I died so much that the game ran out of characters to give Dragonrot and just gave it to me because I coincidentally caught pneumonia right after I started playing it (one or two days after, symptoms started to show). I feel like I'm getting punished for putting Wolf through all those deaths.

A Letter to Snake Eyes Shirahagi

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:26 PM PST

    Dear Snake Eyes Shirahagi,

When I entered your territory blissfully oblivious to your presence, I believed the shotgunner to be the greatest threat on the field. You, on the other hand, I misidentified as a regular gunner. My apologies for that. I grappled down with my shinobi prosthetic - otherwise known as a go-go gadget arm - and attempted to sneak attack the shotgunner.

Falling short of the plunging attack, I hid behind cover and you alerted him. Then you shot me for about half my vitality. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the pain I felt a 5 - mostly because that's halfway up the scale. I cursed under my breath, chugged from my healing gourd and moved to better cover; while moving, you shot me again.

After dispatching the shotgunner, you bashed me in the back of the head and I immediately realized my error. Remembering that you were descended from the Okami and thereby weak to the Sabimaru, I switched tools to no avail. Two more gunners shot me and I disengaged to slay them. Avoiding the poison pooling in the area with my grappling hand, I reached them and slew both before you killed me.

I resurrected using the dragon heir blood and retreated, hoping beyond hope you would lose track of me and I'd be able to re-engage with a backstab before our otherwise honorable duel. You had other ideas. You knew exactly where I was but lacked line-of-sight so you conserved ammunition, lying in wait for me to appear.

From my vantage point on the cliffs, I saw you wading in the poison, however. The green kanji appeared and your vitality slowly ticked down. Curious what would happen when your vitality reached 0, I waited and watched. Then, I swooped in for a quick slash and a deathblow before retreating again. Once again, you waded in that poison.

I don't know if you felt sympathy for me or were just that stupid. But I cheesed you and I'm sorry.

    Sincerely,

    Sekiro

P.S. I murdered your sister about ten hours ago.

O’Rin of Water potential lore? (Japanese Mythology)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:58 PM PST

So recently I was watching a YouTube video and I stumbled across this Japanese creature called the Jorōgumo. The literal translation leads to woman spider and, as folktales are, has many different iterations. Basically a Jorōgumo is a Yōkai that transforms into a young woman and plays a Biwa (Japanese Lute) to lure young men in order to devour them. The Biwa is the same instrument that O' Rin of Water used along with her lute luring Jinzaemon to her and his eventual death (even if she does not devour him.) Another popular story surrounding the Yōkai is "The Jōren falls of Izu." The story is about a man who was resting near a waterfall when he saw he had spider webs around his feet, after removing them and placing them on a log he witnesses the log being pulled into the river so he warns everyone to avoid the waterfall. The story continues that everyone was scared and never visited until a woodcutter found the waterfall. While cutting down trees near the waterfall he dropped his axe and a beautiful Jorōgumo (was appearing as a woman,) grabbed the axe and returned it telling him to never tell anyone of this encounter. He continued to visit the woman but became weaker. Eventually the Oshō (A Bhuddist priest) became worried for the man and proved that it was not a woman but actually a Jorōgumo. To simply oft the remaining he ended up still loving the women and died in the process, if your inclined to read the rest you can find the story just about anywhere with the aforementioned title. So although this doesn't completely prove that O'Rin of Water is a Jorōgumo I believe the similarities between the location (both appear at waterfalls,) Instrument (both play the Biwa) and the people (Jinzaemon is similar to the woodcutter because he is drawn to a mysterious woman and dies because of it.) also I'd like to add that next to the waterfall is where the Oshō of the village is in the game so that could also be a clue but it's a little to off for me to say that there is correlation. To end I would like to say sorry for the lengthy post and the likely many grammar errors. I'm pretty new to reddit but I thought people would find this interesting and I hope to see some insightful comments. Thanks for your time!

Pre ordered this masterpiece in January, took a long break after I couldn’t beat Gyoubu, and finally came back about a month ago. Best game I’ve played in years.

After 8 hours I finally did it, I developed a mega-cheese strategy for Isshin. The cheeses I found on Youtube are either 20 minutes of hit-and-run or require too much actual skills

to all newcomers, don't skip or cheese any swordmaster miniboss, it'll be helpful for your skill learning curve to prepare the final fight
