For me, the Demon of Hatred is the hardest boss in this game, but I've finally gotten what I think is a perfect kill! No HUD, NG+7, Charmless and Bell Demon!

My thoughts on this game after 15 hours...

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:59 PM PDT

I purchased this game 4 days ago and I have been playing the hell out of it. I think this is another great From soft title. The lovely aesthetics and the aggressive combat system make for a thrilling experience. But sadly, not all is wonderful, for I am being torn apart on how I actually feel about his game. With this out of the way, I would like to go through a brief list of issues I have with the game, and I would actually really enjoy to hear if you guys agree with me on these, or think I should just get good.

Camera: Starting off easy here. The camera can hiccup and make you die over and over, especially in small areas. During some bosses, like Lady Butterfly, the camera even unlocks randomly. It can be pretty frustrating, but It's nothing new when it comes to the soulsbourne series.

Mini-Bosses: I love the idea of them! But I feel execution is off. Many mini-bosses are repeated too many times, and feel a little unfair. Mini-bosses are usually found with many enemies nearby, which can sometimes leave you getting ganged up if you're not careful. I like that this encourages you to not simply sprint through a area to get to a boss, but it gets repetitive; just like the mini-boss encounters themselves. It starts to feel like there is a layer of artificial difficulty over many of these fights. They start to feel like chores, and I don't feel as accomplished as I used to when I defeat one, which is disappointing.

Boss Health bar: In the beginning of the game, it stated that bosses healthbars are marked with deathblow meters, which tell you how many times you need to use a final hit on them. Sadly, they throw out this idea pretty fast. I don't know, but I seems weird to put this system in place but then not use it for several late game bosses. It makes me feel like I am being lied to. (EX: Genichiro has 2 deathblow meters, but he actually has 3, ect) Also, many bosses have healthbars that are waaay too big. It turns an intense and aggressive fight into a endurance battle, which are tiring and not as enjoyable.

Terror: I think everyone agrees with me here, moving on

Lack of Direction: This is the reason that is truly messing with me. I love games that throw you out and force you too explore, and it is why I loved Dark Souls 1. This game follows that too, with having many areas accessible upon exploration. If you are stuck, you can run around to a different stage. Although this system gives players freedom, It has actually caused me to become very confused as a player. A little while ago, I was fighting O'rin (the chick with the basket on her head) and was getting my butt kicked. I then searched up some advice for her, and realized that I was very under leveled. My attack power was 3, and people were saying it should be 6-7. I feel like the freedom in this game can easily screw over your experience. Many times its clear that "I'm not supposed to be here", so you simply leave and come back later. Other times it isn't clear at all. I wish bosses, or areas, had suggested Vitality/Attack power levels. This would reduce the amount of suicide attempts that would occurred when somebody tries to fight a boss under leveled. And finally, I get/got lost a ton in this game. Maybe i'm an idiot, but i always don't know where to go next. I never had to google hints so much for a game, and I can't tell if I am just stupid or is something is up. I am constantly missing key items, details, or bosses, that I usually end up searching to find out of confusion. It takes away the flow of the game and the satisfying 'do it yourself' experience. The openness of this game is admirable, but I have come to give it the cold shoulder recently due to it's hindrance on my Sekiro experience.

(Minor issues): Instant death during resurrection, useless items, constant tutorial and item pop ups, lack of enemy variety, underwhelming/useless prosthetic tools

Alright, rant over. And remember, I really like this game. I think it's a lot of fun, and I will keep pressing onward. But as of now, I don't think I'm in love with it. Please share what you think, and lemme know if these issues are valid, or if I am too early into the game to be complaining (if you could add help for any of these that would also be amazing :D ). Peace.

I'm kinda a casual gamer and completely trash at dark souls games. I like the combat but am worried it will be to difficult to enjoy. Is this the case?
