In praise of the Hirata Estate Posted: 13 May 2020 05:20 PM PDT Just finished sekiro for the first time earlier this evening. Sword saint took me a few days but with some time learning the move set I finally got by him. What a relief. I'm delighted I get to look back on the game and all it's ins and outs. The locations were amazing and paired with the character design, it sits up there with blood borne as a uniquely interesting premise. The lore is addictive and gives me everything I want in a storytelling sense. I can safely say my favourite passage of the game by far is the hirata estate. The rainy blue night dappled with orange torch glows just perfectly set the tone for a shinobi infiltration. I feel like the rest of the game didn't really hit those heights in a visual sense even though it was all top notch. And to think it's an optional part of the game! I love the way you enter that memory right in the middle of a bandit raid, it has the feeling of a well crafted film intro. I desperately want to see more of that type of scenario if there was to be a sequel or dlc. The way the estate is laid out is perfect, with the bottleneck to fight the spear mini-boss coming about halfway complimented with some deft shortcuts. Atmospherically the bamboo swaying in the night as you crouch hidden in a flower bush just represents everything I love about the game. All in all I loved it, getting particular pleasure from the memorable sound design, with notable highlights the shinobi execution effect and the wail of the shaggy masked flying guards gliding down off their kites. I'm an illustrator and getting to experience games with this much thought and care put into them makes me want to just draw and make things. So inspiring. [link] [comments]

How in the god damn hell do you avoid Guardian Ape's jump grab in Phase 1 Posted: 13 May 2020 11:46 PM PDT The oen where he jumps up and then rolls and grabs you. I've literally dodged in every direction but he still grabs me, i've even dodged behind him and then teleported into it. It's really pissing me off. [link] [comments]

Sekiro has the most less repetitive combat of all the Soulsborne games Posted: 13 May 2020 05:16 PM PDT Someone said to me, that Sekiro's combat was boring and repetitive, but after giving the game a try and beating it today, I wouldn't agree with that statement. That's because in Dark Souls 1, no boss except Gwyn could be parried, but in Sekiro everyone can get, in fact, you need to parry the shit outta them to win the fight. Also no Boss in the Soulsborne games abused the option to jump, in Sekiro, everyone does. Also dashing in Sekiro doesn't give the player infinite i-frames, mostly the player doesn't want to dash, cause it's the most dangerous option do not get hit. But bosses like the demon of hatred showed that it is still working and not useless, it just has to be used in a different way. So in DS1 the player just engaged by spamming rolls straight through the enemy's attacks, spams the r1 button and disengages by spamming rolls backwards. In DS3 combat is a bit more interesting because tge bosses are faster and more aggresive, the player is able to walk while chugging and most bosses could be parried. BUT Everything DS3's combat bad, Sekiro also has, but it's much better implemented. Because fighting in Sekiro is so fast, hitting two r1s, then timing the deflect perfectly and build a parrychain on the enemys combo, then jumping over the unblockanle attack, walljumping on the enemy, punishing him with two hits and then build another parrychain to a mikiri counter. Also, unlike in the soulsgames, you have to be aggresive, cause the best way to beat an enemy is to break his posture not to lower his healthbar. What would you say about Sekiro's combat compared to the souls series? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 May 2020 12:35 AM PDT two weeks ago I started this game, and I died, cried, and raged, but I made my way through. Now with just 3 bosses left I look back and see what a magnificent game this is, so much that when I tried to make a list of things I did not like about the game the list was not longer than 1 thing. I look forward to what lies ahead, even though Owl (Father), Demon of Hatred, and Isshin the Sword Saint will all 100% wreck me [link] [comments]
Cant improve combat cuz i only ever get to fight bosses Posted: 13 May 2020 07:06 PM PDT I am always taking the stealth approach to kill normal npcs if i get spotted by multiple, i run away and come back when they arent agro anymore THIS makes me very weak at combat because im hardly ever fighting i only ever fight the mini bosses and bosses, and the undying i get stuck on every single mini boss for a day im not asking for help/guide with specific boss fights, just thoughts on this, am i the only one feeling this? im kinda in early game as well, just defeated oniwa and got key from owl in hirata [link] [comments]

Defeat Father Owl by manipulating his AI Posted: 13 May 2020 10:24 PM PDT credits to 琐帝BNU for this strategy if you read Chinese you can just ignore this post and click here Before you proceed this is for players either really struggle with him or just tired of beating him by the traditional way and want to try something new, I hope this "cheese" guide will inspire more creative strategies on beating bosses. I've seen many posts saying there's no cheese for owl father, but truth is he can be "cheesed" First thing though, before we dive into this strategy, we need to understand how it works: Sekiro's AI is basically a huge decision tree involving both player's action and AI's (sorta random) decisions, we all know if you spam attack button and AI will eventually deflect and counter attack you, also, if you stopped attacking when the AI just blocks (that is, not a deflect, sound and visual effects are different), AI will use different counter attacks, so by doing certain moves, you can limit opponent's moveset and eventually exploit him into a cycle So, what about owl? When owl does a block and you stopped attacking, he will do one of the followings: A counter slash: which can be deflect(IMPORTANT, you HAVE to DEFLECT to make the cycle work, blocking and counter slash is too slow) and counter slash by you, he will block your counter slash, ideally this will be an endless loop where you two just take turns hitting each other, since you're always deflecting and he's always blocking, unless you have a super low stat, you will deal a lot of posture damage backward jump, best thing to do is close the gap (by pressing dash ONCE) and attack him to start another cycle, but beware if he shows any sign of attack though, his attack is faster stomp and backward jump: run toward him and attack a red perilous while running to you: jump without any directions, attack him once during his following ichimonji, since this is a super armor move he'll always lose hp, then get ready to deflect his ichimonji a red perilous while he's just next to you: you can either jump to avoid it, or hit him twice: the first hit will always guarantee a health damage and he'll block the second one, thus re-entering the cycle firecrackers: when I see this I just run away, if you're confident you can dash in and start attacking in his second form he uses the fire breath, jump without any direction to avoid the fire beam and ready to mikiri his thrust you can see a video demonstration here Also, as a side note, this cheese is still luck dependent, AI rng likes to counter slash you can follow the rhythm and kill him super fast, if the rng decides to backflip then you still need some skill, so if it doesn't work today, you can try this later (like tomorrow since most rng is time sensitive) so overall, it's still a little luck dependent, and you still need to block and anticipate his movesets, but you don't have to deal them very often if things work out [link] [comments] |
