The absolute rush this game gives you

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:38 PM PST

I'm towards the end of the game and I just wanna say the rush that this game gives you when you do something badass or kill a boss is unlike any other. Like for example the corrupted monk fight when you perfectly deflect all those swipes and the jump over the sweeping attack is so fucking badass I didn't mind dying twice just to see it again and again. I think this is why the souls series is so different. In those games you can become overpowered and clean house pretty easy however, with sekiro you are always kinda the underdog. Like if you're not careful enemy's you fought half the game ago can take a sizable chuck off your health. Not to mention you can't become that overpowered cause there is no real leveling system just skills. So this badass with a sword 2x smaller than the enemy's is just wiping floor if you do it right and it gives you the best rush ever. I love this game

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that they put shrines right before the bosses?

Thank you so much From Software for not having me run through an entire city full of enemies just so I can die to a boss again!

Fish out of water (abandoned dungeon) super weird (also sorry for the horrible pics, couldn’t figure out how to do it on the PS4 cuz I’m an idiot)

    Finally. It is done.

Some techniques you might not know

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:21 AM PST

    1. Divine confetti + floating passage: divine confetti acts a little like a fire buff; with it, each hit deals damage even when deflected. Combined with fast consecutive combat art like floating passage and Ako sugar, it actually deals a good chunk of damage. Try it on Isshin and Genichiro.
    2. You can dodge forward through Papa and Inner Geni's chasing slice, and then turn back for the big dunk.
    3. Ashina Cross without spirit emblem is still OP. It doesn't do piercing vitality damage, but it's a quick two hits with decent posture damage.
    4. Dry Ashina Cross + Divine confetti is a good combination.
    5. Sakura dance's third hit interrupts opponents big moves.
    6. Bestowal Ninjutsu + Yashariku/Ako + Spiral Cloud Passage destroys vitality, usually you can spam this too.
    7. After Mikiri Counter, there is usually time to safely drink potion. Be ready to deflect right after drinking.
    8. Walk, don't sprint. Walking restores posture.
    9. You can deflect lightning arrows and lightning slashes, I mean DEFLECT. Deflecting at the right moment, you will hear 'ting!', but it barely reduces any midair lightning damage. Still kinda cool though.
    10. Umbrella can deflect all grab attacks. Make sure you get the timing right.
    11. You can dodge forward through grab attacks (Geni, Emma, etc.), which puts you behind enemy's back. Make sure you get the timing and dodge direction right.
    12. Mortal Blade without spirit emblem is still OP.
    13. Mountain Echo can be used to turn animals against each other too. You don't need malcontent to do that.
    14. You can use living force with Divine Abduction. It works well with Ichimonji Double and Ashina Cross.

    I will add more.

Coming back to Sekiro after quitting early on

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 04:48 PM PST

I got Sekiro when it first came out and was super excited to play it. Then when I got to the first mini-boss in the Ashina Outskirts I found it too hard and quit. I think I was trying to play it like a Souls game. I don't pick it back up.

Fast forward to quarantine month 10 and I'm in the mood for some good feudal Japan vibes. It was between Sekiro and Nioh. Decided to go with Sekiro, but this time I watched a beginner guide. GREAT decision because now I understand how you're supposed to approach combat.

I'm not very far in the game yet, I'm fighting Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle, and it's such a good game. Very glad I came back to it.

I just beat the game and that was honestly possibly the best final boss I've ever seen.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 08:54 PM PST

I can't even think what I'd put in competition. My favorite level of a game is 7a in Celeste because it tests you on absolutely everything you've learned up to that point in the game.

This was that except rolled into one giant four-phase extravaganza. You had to not only know but be GREAT at everything from basic deflection to Mikiri counters to lightning throwing. And if there was any one mechanic you didn't have down, you would lose.

I'm blown away. I've never seen a game have such a genuine culmination of a final boss. Yeah. Just fantastic. 10/10 boss.
