I legitimately think that great shinobi Owl is the hardest fight in the game

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 11:03 PM PST

Even compared to Owl father I think the regular Owl fight is incredibly difficult. I swear I have trouble on that fight everytime I play and I think it's mostly do to the fact that he makes you mix up between dodge counter and deflecting and don't even get me started on the poison he throws out in the second phase. I think Owl father is a lot easier for that fact that I think his moveset is a lot more predictable in that fight and his moves leave him open for a greater period of time while in the regular Owl fight he punishes you for mostly any mistake. ISS is even easier in my opinion since he becomes a cake walk after the spear phase

Genichiro Ashina is the first and currently only fun boss that I have played against in any Fromsoft game

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 07:11 PM PST

I have probably died close to 100 times to this boss, only ever getting to his second stage 5 times, and have only once gotten to his second stage without healing. I haven't even defeated him yet but I still have so much fun trying each time.

I'm currently playing Dark souls 1 in tandem with Sekiro and I feel so much more excitement when up against a Sekiro boss than any dark souls boss. "Rage" is not something that I feel when playing Sekiro, but it is in Dark souls; dying to a boss in Sekiro is an invitation to try again, in dark souls it feels more like a "fuck you" to the player than an encouragement.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am having a lot of fun in Sekiro, much more than in Dark Souls, and although I will still push through to the end of each of these games, I feel that Sekiro is currently one of my favorite Fromsoft games to date.

Hey all. I'm late to the party but I'm here atlast and getting it done for the family! I made it past the horse guy (Gyoubu?) and now on the Blazing Bull and I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I have no money and havent upgraded anything. Help an optimistic n00b?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 07:05 PM PST

some tips on what to do to get stronger or better weapons? armor upgrade?

am I supposed to go talk to someone after the boss fight? Buy something from someone?

I know I'm just rocking away with the basic beginning sword and am enjoying- do I simply just stay the course?

anything would be awesome. I don't care about spoilers so if you tell me something and an example of why it is worth it would be terrific.

Thanks for any and everything and stay safe this year! Stoked to finally be playing

    Guardian Ape

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 09:04 PM PST

I got Sekiro for Christmas or my bday a year ago. I ended up taking a break because of classic WoW, retail, and just playing other stuff. I didn't realize I took a break right before the Ape which my buddy felt was the hardest boss in the game. So I picked Sekiro back up 3 days ago. I'm a decent souls player, I beat Bloodborne and Hollow Knight but there are bosses that took me 20+ even 50 tries so I'm probably on the low end of skill. It's a series and game style I truly enjoy. I know I'm good enough to beat it but it's truly a battle of attrition. I finally got Guardian Ape down tonight. This is the first boss in any game I've almost been sad I finally downed. My kill was slightly scuffed with only 1 heal and 1 rez ready for the 2nd phase which I would argue is easier than the first. What a truly wonderful boss fight, so far my favorite of the game.

    A bit annoyed

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 12:47 AM PST

So the game doesn't make it obvious at all that you can eavesdrop on friendly npcs and that you have to hug walls in order to do so. So I had absolutely no idea about the Father's Bell questline. Which made me lose out on two prayer beads in my "full run" playthrough. And because the Father's Bell questline is mutually exclusive with the Shura route, that means I have to choose if I want to get those two prayer beads or One Mind. I can't do both at once.

    And that mildly frustrates me.

    That's all.

Honest questions from someone that really wants to like Sekiro.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 04:41 PM PST

Preamble: I love From Software games and have put 100s of hours into the Souls games. Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time. I'm not a high skill player, but I'm well above average in these kinds of games and tend to be patient with learning them.

I've now deleted Sekiro for the second time. The first was at launch. I played for several hours and didn't find the stealth or combat to be as interesting or fun as soulsborne games, and my incentive to keep going was less due to the lack of rpg progression and new armor, weapons, etc.

This time, I tried again on a PS5, and I was focused on learning to embrace the combat system and get good at deflecting, etc. I started fresh and made it a bit further than last time, taking time to learn the deflect timing better than before.

It was slightly more fun this time, but my core issues still remain. They are as follows:

    1) Lock-on seems much more necessary than in soulsborne games (I rarely use it in those), but the targetting and hit detection seem bad about 20% of the time. I'll suddenly hit the wrong enemy or go past and miss with no understanding of why.

    2) Sometimes button presses don't seem to register at all. This is rare, but recurring frequently enough that I dont know that it's just me messing up and not realizing it.

    3) Enemies will track you mid-animation in unrealistic and unintuitive ways. The ogre for example, who manages to rotate in mid-air while finishing a dropkick in response to you dodging. I cam still dodge out of the way, but the tracking means I have to often dodge twice to be safe, losing time to get in and punish and making the fight longer and more tedious.

    4) Enemies will vacuum you into their attacks. Ogre is a good example again. Im clearly outside his grasp and then I get teleported two feet over so he can grab me.

    5) This last is less a complaint and more of a subjective thing, but I do feel like the game works against itself a lot in incentivising you to play. I don't want to fight through 10 enemies for a 1 minute window to practice against the shinobi hunter. I don't want to spend 10 minutes picking off guards to try fighting the drunken boss again. I don't mind a few enemies between a bonfire/lamp/shrine and a boss, but in Sekiro, multi-enemy combat isn't very fun because of the targeting issues, and enemy placement encourages stealth, which is fine but slower, meaning you spend 10 minutes of repetition to get 1 minute of learning a boss fight, and the animation speed and ambiguity of some boss attacks (do I need to dodge or deflect this attack?) make this process slower.

Ive come to accept this game may just not be for me, much as I hate that. It doesn't help that I compare it more to GoT than the soulsborne games, and while GoT is way easier, I also feel like its combat is more refined and fun than Sekiro in many ways.

So my questions are as follows:

What do you like or dislike about Sekiro?

Do you think my points are valid or just me not getting the mechanics well enough?

Do you feel like Sekiro is deep and rewarding enough to keep at it, or should I just go back to soulsborne and leave this one be?

    Thanks ahead of time.

    Isshin Ashina Mikiri Counter Timing

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 01:16 PM PST

So, I can consistently counter Gen without any problems and when I get to Isshin's second phase I can counter his spear but fuck a duck I have yet to successfully mikiri counter him in his 1st phase and it's driving me fucking nuts! Is his timing slightly different to any other mikiri counter or is it just a weird mental block I've developed? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
