    Just beat the first mini-boss

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 04:33 PM PST

Bought the game on a whim knowing about the difficulty but jesus, I did not expect it to be THIS hard. I probably died at least 20 times before I started to learn his attack order and when I should parry and attack.

So it is save to say that sekiro is my favorite game from From software so far

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 07:51 PM PST

Okay when sekiro released i hit a wall at some point in the game. This week i tried to get back i and it was purely amazing. learning the game, the environment, the npcs, the bosses (and holy shit there are a lot).

This game has absolutely everything, the style, the substance and and interesting and magical world. the quests are fletched out to the max and for some odd reason sekiro reminded me of demons souls a lot.

I absolutely love the setting and i am no weeb by any means. how do you call that? feudal japan? idk but its just stunning to see these beautiful environments and the music and especially the sound effects are great too!

This game has many secrets and things to learn and find out but not in a frustrating way like hitting two walls back to back to open some hidden passage shit, no this game knows what it is and serves its world design and gameplay on a gold plate. Movement is fluid and intuitive - love it.

Seriously the bosses are so much fun!!!! i love all of them. this game is balls hard and its just simply amazing when you parry every attack from these bumpers one after another.

I only wish i would had a way to farm the materials for curing the illness i just do not like that they are finite. plus sometimes bosses are so hard you just want it to end it already and you just give up and if you win the fight after x tries it just does not feel super duper amazing, you just wanted it to end. i had the same feeling with these two tigers from the dark souls 2 dlc.

Also something i wish would be a little tweakable, every "major" attack gets this little red japanese text and i would have loved if these were in different colors besides red to recognize them easier.

Anyway this is my most favorite from software game this studio has ever produced. i love the weapons and the ninjutsu and shinobi skills/skilltrees.

Progression is amazing in this game and overall this game is just so fucking well done!!! thank you for reading this it means a lot to me :)

Please, have a great day everyone!

Steam users, are you nominating Sekiro for an award?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 07:27 PM PST

If yes, which category? I'm thinking of either Game of the Year or Best Game You Suck At. Or is it possible to nominate for more than one categories?

How do I kill the spear adepts?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST

I have the anti air deathblow but I rarely ever get it right. Instead I get chopped up by those spinning blades.

Three! Fear is absolute. There is no shame in losing one battle. But you must take revenge by any means necessary! ...I wonder if you've got it in you - to bring me down.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:57 AM PST

This has most likely been asked before, but Ishhin... the fuck?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:53 PM PST

Don't say git gud because that's all I've seen when I've tried looking around and some guys lol beat him first try noob haha. I'm stuck, I've just hit a wall here. Geni is no problem, Saints first phase isn't that big a deal, it's his second phase which I can't get past. When he pulls out the fucking spear and gun in addition to the sword. This and the first Geni fight are the only ones that have truly stumped me. Demon of Hatred? Owl? The corrupted monk? None of those were that big of a problem for me. This? This is getting to me. So please help me?

What is the Black Immortal Blade's name in Japanese?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:35 PM PST

I know its name in English is "Open Gate", presumably meaning opening the gate to the underworld. What is the Japanese translation? Preferably in latin characters. Google says "kaimon" but knowing how finicky translation can be i wouldn't be suprised if that isnt quite right.

New player here with few questions.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 12:55 PM PST

So in recently bough Sekiro for ps4 (was wanting to buy it ever since releas), and was playing it today for first time. I manage to finish tutorial part and half of first area, also got bell charm and was transport to Hirate Estates. So far im having blast and im enjoying game.

    But i have few question?

I feel like tutorial was so easy and had no problems with enemies there (especially parry part), but im really struggling to parry some of enemies attacks, especially those that use heavy weapons like hammer.

In Hirate Estate i noticed that some enemies are harder than first area (did i went into Hirate area to soon?). In that area i really struggle agains those spear guys, like they hit so much yet, when I perform mikiri counter and press attacks afterwards they still block attack and i fell like i did nothing, so i finally defeated them by dodging and waiting for opening.

Same was with that drunk mini boss in Hirate area. It hit like a truck so i didnt block at all, and all I did was dodge backwards, learned attack pattern and waited for opening.

I have felling that im missing something or is this how it's ment to play? I have felling that combat is more parry focused than dodge focused?

Any tips for newcomer without spoilers please.

    Thanks.

I do not like the Demon of Hatred

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 08:17 PM PST

This post falls into the discussion flair as well as the help flair because I need help on this boss. Anyways...

Imagine fight Isshin, the Sword Saint in Dark Souls. I think most of us would agree that fighting him in those games would suck, as they don't have the mechanics from Sekiro you need to beat him; it just wouldn't make sense, from a game design perspective. Now, flip that around. Imagine fighting Midir in Sekiro. It makes just as little sense as Isshin in Souls, the mechanics are too different for it to work at all. Sekiro doesn't give you the rolling i-frames to dodge the attacks properly and the game is all about breaking posture and being extremely aggressive, which Midir sort of doesn't want; he prefers you to go in for a few hits and then dodge. That's essentially what the problem with the Demon of Hatred is.

In the beginning, Sekiro really makes you adapt to deflecting more and dodging less, especially at Genichiro Ashina. It punishes the Souls playstyle and encourages its own beautifully, it's something I adore about Sekiro, among many other things. But the Demon of Hatred throws all that out the window, at the endgame of all times.

This boss is a Bloodborne boss in Sekiro, to put it simply. It is wildly similar to the Cleric Beast in terms of its shape and how it moves, and Manus in that it has a strong arm it uses to slam down on you, among other attacks. This boss is almost certainly a reference to past Souls games, since it feels so similar in virtually every way, especially how hard it punishes the wildly aggressive playstyle Sekiro encourages virtually everywhere else.

Many of the boss's attacks also feel like you're intended to i-frame them with a roll or quickstep, like in Souls or Bloodborne. I am referring mostly to that bullshit fireball attack he does where he fires a bunch of them, it would be a great attack if I could roll through it. But Sekiro has no such way of making yourself invincible for any significant period of time. I still am not sure if dodging gives you any i-frames or not. This is my main problem with the boss, it feels like it was meant for Dark Souls III or something but was cut and reused here. Hell, even the name feels like something out of Dark Souls (side-note: the name Demon of Hatred is so damn over-the-top in how dark it wants to sound that I find it hilarious).

Anyways, feel free to refute me all you want, I'm open to other viewpoints if it means I can find a way to have fun with this boss. And please help with that DAMN FIREBALL ATTACK
