Just a conspiracy theory on the death of Isshin Ashina

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 11:28 PM PDT

Like many I've been replaying this game over and over, constantly noticing new details I didn't notice in the last playthrough. One thing that still bothers me though is Isshin's unexplained illness.

Now it could just be that, an illness. It would be ironic in a way that the Sword Saint, feared all over Japan, was killed not by a sword but by something he couldn't even kill.

But let's say it wasn't some illness, instead Isshin was poisoned. Who poisoned him? How did they poison him? And why did they do it?

So I'm just going to get started by saying I don't believe it was the Interior Ministry. I instead think it was a fool that did it, a fool that we fought and killed in defense of our Lord Kuro. Let me direct you to a piece of dialogue that Isshin says after being given Dragonspring sake:

Well Well! If it isn't Dragonspring! You've really done it this time, Sekiro! Buhaah! That hit the spot! Whenever I used to get my hands on Dragonspring...bunch of fools would start coming to me, demanding drinks. Fools who wouldn't let go of their cross-spears while they drank...fools who would steal sake using illusion techniques...fools tinkering with half-finished prosthetics, sake cup in hand. And even...the cunning owl, who despite his size would turn bright red after the first drop! Yes, your father was a fool too."

We know that Isshin liked his sake and would hold regular get togethers at his castle with friends: Gyoubu, Lady Butterfly, Doujen, and Owl. Two of those regulars were professional and deadly shinobis well versed in trickery. We also know that Owl in particular was an ambitious, selfish man willing to sell out both his adopted son, country, and friends all in the name of power.

His plan was set in motion at least 3 years before the events of the main story during the Sacking of Hirata Estate but what if his plan was in motion long before that. During his the second phase of his fight stop Ashina Castle he starts using poison so what if, even long before the Hirata Estate incident, Owl slipped a deadly but subtle poison into Isshin's drink during their merrymaking.

He clearly knows enough about poison and being sneaky, I mean he sneaked up on Wolf despite being bigger, bulkier, and older than him. So he could have managed to slip poison into Isshin's drink without him noticing designed to cause a slow, drawn out death not out of cruelty but so that the rest of his plans and deals with the Interior Ministry could bare fruit all culminating in the attempt to kidnap Kuro for his power and seize not just the land of Ashina but all of Japan. And his plan would have worked were it not for the surprise appearance of Wolf.

What's a bit sad even is that when Isshin gives you that piece of dialogue I feel like we could detect a trace of bitterness in his words along with feeling betrayed. Perhaps Isshin knew all along it was Owl that cursed him with his chronic illness but by then Owl might've been long gone, scheming, while Isshin and the Ashina clan withered away.

This game finally clicked for me, and it’s the greatest game I’ve ever played

When I killed Oniwa, I was still kind of like "this deflecting stuff is BS," and I sucked at it. I just killed(defeated it's a more proper word) Genichiro, and it felt amazing!!! I love how direct my input was in the fight, so much more of a thrill and challenge than the simple roll and attack mechanics of the 3 souls games. And then I went to the reservoir and killed the shadow swordsman and then the Seven spear guy, finally getting used to that special counter you can do.

Now i gotta find Isshin, this games so amazing I'm glad I bought it rather than playing Dark souls 3 AGAIN 😂

    Isshin is scared of shinobis

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:11 PM PDT

Isshin is a very strong boss and im sure he is scared of shinobis because someone of his caliber would not bring a gun to a sword fight and why did he not give geinichiro a gun bothers me aswell i mean who the fuck uses a bow when your grandfather is strapped and ready to clap i would borrow isshins glock though if he was my grandfather and some shinobi is tryna kill me
