Beat the guardian ape only five days after beating Genichiro. I am so bad at dark souls but with this game it feels so good to be almost good.

Bullying Inner Isshin as Shura, The Demon Wolf In Red

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:57 PM PST

Remember, Shinobi. A man has only failed, amd his enemy tasted victory, once he has given up. Resilience is victory, as hesitation is defeat.

I've finally got a handle on Sword Saint Isshin

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 08:01 PM PST

My last struggle was demon of hatred. Tried to cheese the bastard but I couldn't pull off the jump so I decided to beat him outright. Ended up being one of my favorite fights, and I strolled up to Isshin with a lot of confidence. Suffice to say, that confidence was swiftly dispatched.

At first, I was only able to beat Genichiro without dying about half the time, and Isshin just wrecked me before I was able to do any damage. Even after Guardian Ape and Great Shinobi Owl, I truly thought this fight would be impossible.

Over the last couple days, I'm proud to say I've made progress. I'm still fucking up, but I managed to get past the first phase, and I even made it close to the third phase like three times. He's still destroying me, but I'm finally at the point where I can see the mistakes I'm making and analyze my strategy properly. Outside of breaks to farm pellets and akos sugar, I've been attempting this fight nonstop for the last eight hours, and I can really feel myself getting better.

My main struggle is identifying which perilous attack he's doing (although retreating to the bridge and getting out of the tall grass helped) and just getting his rhythm down generally. But still, I struggled a lot with Genichiro at Ashina Castle, and now when I try that fight I kick his fucking teeth in, so I feel like I'm finally at the point where I can make some progress. I still think Sister Friede was the best boss of any From Software game, but Isshin is a close second and he honestly might end up being my favorite after I finally beat him.

If I don't beat him in the next two days I want everyone who reads this post to send me condescending, insulting DM's until I do, just to motivate me.

Hot take: Demon of Hatred is a BLAST

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 09:56 PM PST

Seems to not be the most popular opinion, but Demon of Hatred was so much fun. It rewards being an absolute MAD MAN:

    - Shooting fireballs? Run at him full bore, poke his belly with your sword.

    - About to stomp on you? Full sprint around him, smack him in the toosh.

    - Giant overhead attack? Full sprint at him at a shallow angle, take out his knees.

I liked that he was different, I like that it was tough. Felt like I was battling a Balrog the entire time, ggs Fromsoft.

I want to love this game but stuff like the mini-bosses having surrounding enemies irritate me to the point of wanting to never play it again

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 11:29 PM PST

I've tried all post-Armored Core Miyazaki games (plus Dark Souls II). Didn't really like any of them and never got close to beating them.

Sekiro is the only one I find to be genuinely fun because I love fast-paced combat.

However the mini-bosses are insanely fucking irritating because they all seem to have a bunch of enemies that need to be taken out beforehand. There was one mini-boss in the Ashina Outskirts(?) where it eventually was easy enough to take out all of the enemies in less than 2 minutes and without getting hit. It's still annoying as fuck, though, and I'd rather not have to waste the time killing the enemies again.

With the Misen fight in particular, I just lose motivation every time I die (Yes I have the Mikiri counter). There seems to be no way of not alerting surrounding enemies. From my experience, and from some vids I've seen online, the only way to deal with the enemies surrounding Misen is to kill 1 or 2 of them and then run back and hide until they're no longer alerted, and to rinse and repeat that 1-2 more times. THEN you can focus on Misen. By the time I get to focus on Misen I just think "omfg I don't want to have to go through that again," and then die because I feel like the hit box with the spear is weird (and unless I wasn't paying attention I don't know where I'd be able to practice on spear wielding enemies. Sadly I find the tutorial guy to be utterly useless now). Which would be fine... if I didn't have to go through the annoying ass process of killing off the other enemies again.

I'm sorry but that's fucking annoying, and it just makes the game feel hella cheap.

But maybe I need to accept this and just not play it because I'm sure there's going to be examples of situations in the future that I would find FAR cheaper/annoying.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something about the set up of the enemies surrounding Misen?

Bestowal in honesty one of my favorite things to use in Sekiro, it uses a lot of spirit emblems but its 100% worth it

I know many have done it before me, but I finally beat the Sword Saint Isshin with Base Vitality, No HUD, Charmless and with Demon Bell. The skill cap on this game is amazing, I still see so much room for improvement

    Killing Owl, 100 attempts

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:57 PM PST

Sounds like the name of a killer jutsu :)

I finished this guy over the weekend and thought I would share some stats/strats.

It took me 39 attempts before getting his first phase to half health. I finally got him to second phase on attempt 65. By then I had learned his attacks pretty well and could respond to them for the most part. I would typically die for just being too slow, or trying to reposition myself.

From there until I killed him, I was getting him to phase two about every 10 tries. Then on attempt 99 and 100 I got him to second phase both times, and finished him on attempt 100.

Since I am following Fighting Cowboys walkthrough, I initially attempted to keep on the attack and get his posture down as quick as possible, as FC does. I found this pretty difficult, as much of the time I would take a swing at him, he would jump backwards and nail me with a shuriken. I never really was able to be very aggressive since he was so aggressive himself and gave me little chance to get in any damage during normal back and forth sword swinging. Around attempt 40 I decided to try a different tactic I had seen in another video, which was just to keep distance and run in for a whirlwind attack any time he jumped. This proved quite deadly (to me), since he can close the distance very quickly, and because you can't block while running.

I ended up doing sort of a hybrid of the two styles. I would deflect everything I could, staying somewhat close, and go in for a whirlwind any time he used his jump attack, or threw out one of those anti healing things. Took quite a while to get the fight perfect enough to win however. There are sooo many tiny little things that can kill you in the blink of an eye.

About 30 minutes after I killed him I was in Hirata estates going after the other Owl in the past. The very first thing I encounter was this little piece of crap shadow miniboss that I almost killed on the first try, then died non stop for the next two hours. Never did get him down. Sometimes I really hate this game.

Some have described learning the rhythm of this game as a dance, and getting into the groove after a few bosses. The only dance you could describe my play style as is a slam dance, with me being the one getting slammed. I don't know at what point im supposed to 'get it', but it sure has not sunken in yet.

And for the record, yes I think some bosses are way too hard. Its not fun for me dying for 4 hours straight, and the only feeling I get after winning is a sense of relief that I don't have to die anymore and can continue on with the game. Thats just me though :) I keep going because im stubborn, not because I enjoy it. :D

Just found out that you can actually deflect one of the divine dragon's attacks

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 08:24 PM PST

You can actually build posture with it although you still need to strike him with lightning to kill him, I am not sure about the rest of the attacks but I think most of them you can deflect.

Having trouble with the Mikiri counter timing

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:25 PM PST

Is there a specific point in the thrust attacks where I have to do it? I always seem to mess up the timing and get hit. Fighting the shinobi hunter guy.

Can anyone tell me how to get these ending without actually spoiling them?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 11:37 PM PST

I know this might be a big ask, but I've already done the immortal severance ending and I'm about to go for the other ones. Every guide I've seen or watched has for some reason said what the characters will say and every plot point instead of just saying how to do it. For example, a guide would say something like "talk to Emma and she will tell you this this and this" but I'd just want "go here and talk to Emma". If this is sorta undoable I'll delete this post, but I was just wondering if anyone could try.
