The holy trinity of combat focused games?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 02:55 PM PDT

I'm curious what the community holds as their personal trinity of games with an emphasis on combat that have yet to be surpassed. It can be out with FromSoftware's back catalogue or inclusive. In no particular order. 1, Sekiro 2, GoT 3, Bloodborne

What if you offered the Guardian Ape a banana?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:52 AM PDT

Hypothetically, what would happen if you entered his arena and handed him a banana? Do you guys think he'd let you pass? We know he is a monkey, and his shits are hard and round, which is a sign of constipation. Bananas help relieve constipation. Also, he is a monkey. What do y'all think?

How to beat Genechiro Ashina(way to tomeo). I have a hard time deflecting his 7 hit combo and arrows. I was able to get his 1 healthbar down by damaging his posture.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:38 PM PDT

I cant perfectly deflect his attacks. I fought lady butterfly before I was able to deflect her every attack.

    Guardian Ape Tips

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:10 PM PDT

Hey! I just got to the Guardian Ape and im having a hard time. I just can't tell when to attack him, it's like he's always moving and if i get to close to him he kills me in 2 hits. My question is: when am i supposed to attack him? I tried like 15 times and only hit him like 5 times each try. I tried to watch some methods on youtube and i saw the most popular one where you have to keep your distance and wait until he jumps, but he always hit me with that thing he was throwing. I can't tell how 40% defeated this dude. Thanks!

Posture based combat mechanic just too good to die with Sekiro.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 05:37 AM PDT

What do you think the chances are Elden Ring featuring combat akin to Sekiro or will it default back to Dark Souls? For me it would seem very regressive to go back to traditional stamina based combat mechanics but I appreciate there is a massive community of fans that would loose their shit if From deviated too much for the Souls formula.

Even more remotely, is there a chance GoT would embrace posture based combat in the inevitable sequel?

I guess I'm just grasping at straws hoping Sekiro will not be the only game with such a novel and engaging combat system.

After beating the big gorilla thing with white hair?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:19 PM PDT

I've been wanting to play this game for a while again after not playing it for so long because its hard and the Japanese setting didn't interest me as much as the settings in the dark souls games and bloodborne did even though its pretty satisfying to play, especially in the boss fights. But last time I played I beat the big white gorilla and got a white flower but I couldn't figure out where to go or what to do afterwards. I know I could just look it up but i want to avoid spoilers. I'm probably missing an area that I haven't explored I feel like but last time I played I did check around few of the places that didn't have many of those idols there but wasn't able to find anything. Also I did talk to the child after beating the boss and giving him the white flower but he didn't say anything that helped he after.

It makes no sense for the counter attack (attack after dodge) to be slower than a normal attack.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:05 PM PDT

I love From Soft games. I'm legitimately obsessed with Bloodborne. I tell everyone about Bloodborne. I buy random Bloodborne collectibles from Etsy. I watch lore videos for hours on end. Yet, here I am. MONTHS later and I still can not get into this game.

"This isn't like any other souls game" yes, clearly. I get that. I get that the mechanics are different. I get this game is a mind fuck on your soulsborne muscle memory. I get that this game is all about parrying and not dodging. Trust me, I know this is a completely different game.

Yet, I still find the combat mechanics to be incredibly rigid, clumsy and quite honestly, boring. For example, WHY is the counter attack (attack after dodge) this super slow spinning attack, that is slower than a normal light attack. It makes no sense! If I am dodging and then quickly trying to attack, it is clear that I am trying to get small bit of damage in between dodges. Intuitively, you would expect this attack to be a quick one. But because it is a slow, powerful attack, I find myself constantly dodging and then pausing for a second, so that I don't trigger the slow, spinning attack.

In my opinion, this is completely unintuitive and clumsy. Gosh, I really want to get into this game. I've read so many posts and keep telling myself it's only a matter of time before I like it. But quite honestly, I may just have to accept that this game is not for me.

    O'rin Is utter bullshit

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 09:29 PM PDT

Edit: I beat her, still not enjoyable, but good design.

First off, there's no time to heal. In the time I can get away for 2 seconds to heal, she can cross the entire arena, and start her combo attack. Not to mention that she can teleport.

Second, it's almost impossible whittle that vitality down. There's only two attacks that give you an opening to hit her once, and without confetti you barely do damage.

Third, her posture damage. I have been getting better at her, and can deflect some attacks, but getting hit by just three means a posture break. And with her speed, you can't recover it.

I have 14 vitality, 7 attack power, and 8 gourds. Also, sabimaru would be nice to use, if you could get enough hits in to proc it.
