    Senpou Monks misunderstood?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 04:45 PM PDT

So I know people have commented on this before but I do believe the Senpou Monks are misunderstood. I'm not going to make a real long post trying to address every point, only those I feel are the most common thoughts I've seen.

When searching about the monks, the most common view of them is that they are evil monks, who have lost their way. They have turned their backs on the teachings of Buddha in search of immortality, through the rejuvenating waters. They also kidnapped and experimented on countless children in order to produce the divine child of rejuvenation.

Now, I do believe they lost their way but I don't think that's the whole story. When we read the holy chapter infested, we learn that many of the monks are indeed immortal through the centipedes. There's seems to be alot of debate about how the centipedes work and their origin but we know that we come across quite a few monks who are infested. Through the text we learn that they feel with immortality they need to become enlightened to understand why they were infected with the centipedes. On a side note, it's worth noting that it said "For an age, I have been blessed by the worm." That doesn't date it but it makes it seem like alot of time. Could the infestation been the real reason the monks wanted to look into the waters so much? If so, searching for immortality doesn't really fit what they were doing if they already had the centipede. It supports the idea that they were trying to figure out why they had it instead.

Now, onto the second point I wanted to bring up. When examining the holy chapter Dragons Return it vaguely describes the events of the dragons return. Could the monks have been doing all their research and through their observations, found that the dragons heritage wasn't meant for Japan and thus, wanted to find a way to return it? The only way for this to be accomplished would be for someone to act as a cradle for the divine heir. And isn't it odd that the monks just so happen to create one?

The last point is very much a theory based on what I've heard from some in the community. The mortal blades origins' are very mysterious. It is possible that they came from fountainhead or the divine dragon itself but for me, it seems like an odd thing for those that revere the dragon so much would make. In my opinion, it seems more reasonable that the monks at Senpou created them, at least the crimson blade as it is also necessary if you are to return the dragons heritage. It's also of note Tomoe was unable to find the blade as the monks wouldn't tell her where it was. Makes you question why they were the ones who had it on the first place if they didn't create it.

In conclusion, the monks did some horrible things but I think if you look at why they did them it might make more sense. Most of the people in the game don't have good things to say about them but it could just be that they don't really know what's going on behind the scenes.

I'm sorry if others have posted about this and done better but I've not seen it. Hope at least , it gets people thinking. And I could be wrong on some things but as most of you know, getting answers in this game isn't always simple.

The most resurrections you can have in a single fight, is six.

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 07:05 PM PDT

(I will test this out to confirm it. Stay tuned)

If facing a boss with three health bars, You get your base resurrection, one unlocked from a death blow and another one unlocked from the second death blow (assuming you die again.) (this is assuming you have three resurrection nodes filled already)

From here you can gain another resurrection with a Dragons blood droplet, another from a Jizo Statue and yet another from the Pink Jizo Statue.

Adding up to an amazing 6 resurrections. That is all. Go out and die Six times, Shadows.

Who would win in this fight? Midir has Power but Divine has distance and a stage full of lightning.

Sekiro is the antithesis to the pervasive culture of instant gratification. I for one love it for that very reason.

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 03:32 PM PDT

'In every conceivable way, Sekiro is designed to reward patience and concentration. Instead of subscribing to the urgency and instantaneity of contemporary society, FromSoftware developed a game that asks the player to take a step back.'

This is my favourite quote from Ludovic Castro's The Second Life of Souls book. I can't help but think this is why the degree of difficulty in Sekiro is insurmountable to some. They simply cannot sustain the time commitment and tolerate the delay of gratification that comes with this game.

I look forward to discussing this more with the community.

Not dying to Isshin because I have a gamer chair... but the gamer chair broke posture so I'm dying to Isshin anyway, with Charm, no Bell Demon, and three buffs until I get bored (Day 3)

    First off I'm a noob.

I hate using guides because sometimes they have spoilers. Reddit is pretty good about not spoiling. Anyway, I'm doing my first run and love this game. I have some basic questions.

There's lots of paths open for me, I don't know exactly if I'm going the right way. I need help with the block button counter. Do I press forward and b as the attack hits me? Or when the Japanese icon comes up. Sometimes I pull it off, sometimes not. Risky.

I have unlocked some spells, but I can only have one kb+rb skill at once? I'm currently using the one that does like 7 slashes at once from the red fish scale guy.

I just tonight made my way to the demon bell. Should I hit it? I have not defeated a headless at this point. I think I have encountered two different ones. I can't hang with them. Should I have killed them by now?

Also, I think im in a bad spot. In the depths caves, there is a boss at the poison pond with a shotgun that one shots me. Is he for later?

Also, I tried to use a dragon blood to cure everyone from dragon rot, but I used it in inventory, not from shrine. Did I lose that blood forever?

One last thing, I'm trying to upgrade my ninja stars to be the butterfly ones, but it says I'm missing pre reqs. I so far have fireworks, spring ninja, spring axe, and fire tube. Can you tell me what I need for the butterfly ninja stars? It has 2 boxes locked but doesn't say what I need.

    Sorry for the rambles.

Thanks if you can help. -jeff

    FINALLY!

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 06:20 AM PDT

I got sekiro almost 2 years ago, and loved every second of it—until I hit the wall that is Owl Father. For two years he kicked my ass and then I finally beat him last month.

Well, it wasn't much of a surprise what would come next: Isshin Sword Saint. This guy was challenging—I almost thought I'd hit another wall... but last night I finally beat him. I was shaking with joy haha. Love this game and I'm excited to now finally get back into it with NG+.

I firmly believe that anyone can beat this game now—it's just a matter of not giving up. I think that's the magic of fromsoft games and why no other games can scratch that particular itch these games provide.

Here's hoping their next game gives that same feeling (I'm hoping to play demons souls too whenever I can get my hands on a PS5 one day).

I found a great early game grinding spot if you manage to the idol I’m gonna mention without dying.

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 10:30 PM PDT

I don't know if someone already posted this grind spot before on here but I'm gonna share anyway.

So it's the Gun Fort Sculptor's Idol. Idr how to get to this area but I'm sure comments will provide this. So when you get there, don't go across the little bridge, instead go the other way and sneak once you see light. There's a room with 3 gunman in it. The shotgun guys provide (as I'm grinding) a little under 300 experience each, the snipers give 160, and the candle lady gives 40. So backstab the guy directly in your path. This will immediately alert the other two in the room. What you want to do is immediately run back toward the idol and across the bridge, hiding near the first support beam. They don't take that long to give up so you won't be waiting long.

Then, the second shotgun will have his back turned to you as you reenter the room. Backstab him and more often than not, nobody will be alerted. If they do get alerted, just go back to where you came from and sneak just behind the turn. The sniper in the room will be on the second story. Backstab, no alerts. Then the candle lady in the tunnel where the shotgun guy was looking. Then right outside the entrance to the tunnel, to the right, is another shotgun guy. Backstab. From here, watch out for gunpowder mines. They don't do damage but they do alert everybody in the area.

Follow the path to a fork and go right. Backstab the sniper there, then go back to the fork. Go left, maneuvering around the mines to another fork. You'll see a grapple point above you. Maneuver around the mines then grapple up. Kill the sniper at the top and look down to see another sniper. Dive kill him and immediately look left down the cliff face. You'll see another sniper to dive kill. After killing him, there's another sniper on the layer below where this sniper was. Sneak and drop down for another backstab. From there, there's a grapple point along the cliff. Grapple, then grapple again to reach a ledge wall. This wall takes you to where the first outdoor sniper we killed was.

From there just go back to the idol. To make this easier and quicker, after you kill everybody, set off all the mines. They don't respawn after resting, making this strategy a whole lot easier. Rest, rinse, repeat. You'll have a ton of skill points and money in no time. Plus these enemies drop antidote powder and very rarely, pellets. So you won't soon run out of those.

Well that was easily the hardest thing I've ever done in a game, and that's coming from someone who's 100%ed Dark Souls.

if you want to see where sekiro gets much inspiration from, check out these movies

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 06:33 PM PDT

the "old" samurai movies Ran (1985) and Kagemusha (1980) are just filled with motifs, props, environments, buildings, costumes that could be picked out of sekiro. Blade of The Immortal is a newer one and not quite in the auteur style of Kurosawa but still worth a watch. Shogun Assassin's (1980) main character is literally named Lone Wolf lol. and lastly, although it isnt very similar to the other movies, Ghost Dog : Way of the Samurai is a true classic
