So, after approx. 240 hours (single father of two mind you, and maybe a tad too trigger happy) I completed my first playthrough (shura - against my will, I got too excited and slipped).

I know, I get it, I may not qualify as one of the all-time greats, but I just wanted to share this moment with people who appreciate this game and understand how and why a person could and would spend 10 days inside this amazing game trying to complete it. Maybe I should have quit after the 20-something hours I spent fighting Genichiro, but the inspiration this subreddit and all of you guys provided kept me going (also s/o to fighting cowboy and tyrannicon for letting me believe that I could actually do it).

It sounds crazy, but I love this game so much, and I really enjoy the struggle. And even though I would personally benefit from an getting the option to ease-up the difficulty, I hope the never budge and make it more accessible. I'll gladly put in another 240 on my next run.

I am a couple of hours into my second playthrough and I'm feeling pretty confident that I'll get this one done in at least half the time.

    From Sweden with love

Goodbye Sekiro. It’s been fun. Kinda.

    Seriously!?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:40 PM PDT

Yes, I'm back again. This time because the game isn't doing what I'm clearly intending to do.

So I'm fighting lady butterfly and I figured out how to beat her. Easy part. What's frustrating the hell out of me is I've got a handle on her attacks and when to deflect, but every once in a while, when I press deflect, Wolf dodges instead. I don't even have my finger on Circle. What is going on here. I mean I got really close to killing her the second round. I decided to play it safe and wittle down her health bar. Yes I know her posture bar is very poor but I don't want to take chances with her illusions. She gets rid of them and I charge in to fight her one more time. I get my strikes in and deflect her rebuttal. Then I deflect her attacks, only after she pauses for a second for one more attack, instead of deflecting, I dodge slightly to the side and get smashed into the ground, leave me open and she immediately attacks again. Wtf!? What is going on here?

How do I get the "Man without equal" trophy?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 05:39 PM PDT

So I have been trying to platinum this game, and I have two trophies left, "Height of technique" and "Man without equal". Height of technique is just a simple grind trophy, but Man without equal seems a bit more complicated. I play on PS4 and I looked up how to get the trophy. It seemed simple enough, kill all bosses. Well, I have done that, even father owl, the headless apes, and both isshin fights. I am confused and I'm wondering if there is something that I have missed.

What is personally your favourite Sekiro area and why?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:13 AM PDT

    Personally;

My favourite Sekiro area is the Hirata Estate.

I really enjoy both of the visits to the estate.

The first time you visit the Estates has a different aura to when you revisit them knowing that Owl had betrayed you after he had seemingly helped you during the first visit.

The diversity of the areas from the lower village like houses to the forest to the estate is amazing.

The mini bosses within the estates during the first visit are also amazing learning bosses and the Lone Shadow Masanaga optional mini boss is a really fun fight.

The battle with Lady Butterfly after getting through the estates the first time is an amazingly done fight. She is difficult, but she isn't an annoying boss as her fight is just difficult enough.

The Owl Father boss fight is one of my personal favourite fights in all of the From Software games. My first playthrough was a purification ending, and Owl Father was the most difficult boss I had to deal with by far.

    Yet another evening on Genichiro

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 05:17 PM PDT

Maybe 3 more hours of attempts. It's getting to be a joke. He has so many ways to posture break and kill you. I've read everything I can find, watched videos, I have a plan and a strategy. But I still only rarely make it to the lightning phase and then, I rarely last more than about 20 seconds.

It's so frustrating because I know what to do. I need to deflect almost everything, get close to him and keep him under pressure. In phase one, when he jumps, I deflect and mikiri counter. Etc etc. I just can't pull it off. I'm not getting enough good deflects, so I'm losing posture, and then getting slammed to the ground and executed with arrows or swipes.

I should probably give up? But I so want to beat this guy and from everything I read, if I can get through him the rest of the game won't be so bad. Fuck!

Can we please just appreciate the sound design of Inner Isshin's Mortal Draw? (His first attack in the vid)
