Never been good at soulsborne games, but Sekiro clicked for me. One of my all time favorites. I’m going to go ice my hands now to avoid arthritis.

Why I Love Demon of Hatred

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 03:46 PM PDT

I recently finished the game for the first time. I've seen a lot of controversy around this boss, but the most common criticisms are the same reasons I found myself gushing over the fight while I played it.

I'm not the first to point out that DoH requires an extremely different approach from what the game has rewarded to this point, playing more like a Souls boss in many ways, but to me this was a great design choice. If DoH were the primary final boss, that would be a misstep, but as an optional endgame boss I loved that it requires you to adapt to a new strategy focused on dodging and sprinting. Despite the emphasis on avoidance and vitality over deflecting and posture, I still found the play experience fundamentally Sekiro. The limited i-frames and lower all-around utility of Sekiro's dodge compared to Souls put the emphasis on really understanding the exact paths/hitboxes of the Demon's attacks, as opposed to patiently timing dodges and punishing. I was constantly evaluating the best route to safely evade and get in a few swings when dodging left when I should have gone right could destroy me, and the best approach was dependent on my own moment-to-moment positioning instead of a default pairing of stimulus to response. Rapidly weaving sprints and dodges together to carefully avoid these attacks was just as...organic?...as the posture-focused sword duels. Additionally, I still felt encouraged to stay close and be aggressive because many attacks are more dangerous further away. Mastering his moveset and outlasting him was so engaging to me I refused to use Suzaku's umbrella, even when the AoE fire attacks were the last thing tripping me up.

DoH's three slowly depleting health bars are another common sticking point for players, but for me also a strength. This was another feature I felt pushed me to stay aggressive, in order to limit the time in which I might make a catastrophic mistake. The fight is an endurance match, and playing too cautiously to drag it out only made it harder as focus became a challenge. Needing to react more deliberately to each attack - not mostly timing deflects and attacks while occasionally breaking rhythm to handle a specific move, but instead considering the path of the attack and my position to choose whether to sprint or dodge - was a constant strain even as I understood the moveset, and the immense vitality to plow through made this truly grueling in a way other fights just don't imitate.

I think that putting such a unique spin on the game's mechanics in as a parallel challenge to Sword Saint (himself a more natural summation of the game's primary playstyle) was an inspired bit of design, and this was one of my favorite fights in the game.

    Ministry Gunman vs Chained Ogre

After beating Genichiro at the beginning of the game I decided to flex on him at the top of the tower

I think I’ve finally gotten all I can from this game without DLC. After getting the platinum a few days ago, I completed my NG+5, Demon Bell, No Kuro’s Charm run, and I just wish there was more :(

How the hell do you beat the headless guys?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 03:13 PM PDT

I know you need to use the divine confetti to interact with them, and I have the purple gourd thing to reduce terror. But I can't dodge or block him, which just leaves jumping.

Am I missing something? I'm losing a lot of experience trying to figure these guys out.0

    Question about Gourd glitches

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 09:49 PM PDT

I just bought a seed for 2000 from the vendor next to Emma. I walked over to Emma and it says I don't have one - I checked and don't have it in my inventory, and when I don't have the 2000, it also says I've purchased the only one when I check with the vendor.

Is this guy supposed to rip you off or is this a glitch?
