    Isshin ashina vs sekiro

Last year I rescued a kitten out in the rain. He was in front of my garage and was meowing for help. When I found him he was soaked, so I brought him in and dried him off and then I bundled him up in a red blanket so he could get warm. He looked like a Bundled Jizo statue so I named him Buddha Bear.

Just Beat Sekiro For the First Time and This Game Is My Most Favorite Fromsoft Game

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:09 PM PDT

Disclaimer: I have not played Bloodborne or Demon Souls

Just finished the game today and have some compliments about this game that's different from Dark Souls games.

    Spawn Points

There's usually a spawn point right next to the boss which makes it really easy and pain free to go to the boss fight maybe with the exception of some optional bosses (or Rooooobert dude). Contrast this with Dark Souls where you have to dodge countless enemies and sometimes their attacks clip through the fog gate and hit you (cough O&S cough)

    Simple Leveling System

Instead of being confused by what the hell adaptability is or when investing levels into HP start to taper off, the simple system Sekiro makes it so I can just focus on exploring the game and improving my actual mechanics like deflecting.

    No tedious levels/areas

I have not done any dark souls game in New Game + mostly because there's one or two areas that I hate to do again like the Catacombs in DS1 and Shrine of Amana in DS2. In Sekiro I didn't feel that way and am looking forward to NG+ and trying out the different choices/endings I also think they make it much easier to bypass a lot of the enemies once you find a good route.

    Straightforward Story

It's a nice fresh of breath when you know what exactly you have to do and can follow the story. Even the hints in story like the dead children in Senpou Temple are validated by other NPCs. Not to say, I will still watch VaatiVidya videos to catch up on the lore. There are some unexplained things which I might have missed like why Lady Butterfly was trying to abduct Miko.

    Fun bosses

Not to say dark soul bosses weren't fun but I enjoyed all the bosses in this game. Even bosses like the 3 monkey's was apparent once you talk to the monk. The fourth monkey is pretty obvious if you're wearing headphones. I will admit I might have a different opinion if I didn't accidentally knock the armored warrior of the bridge on my second try. From thinking that the boss is impossible the first time you fight them to being able to beat them without barely using your gourds is a good feeling. That and I like how they progress the difficulty of the fight like the guardian ape to headless ape.

Overall I like the direction Fromsoft took with this game and am looking forward to getting the other endings while we wait for Elden Ring.

EDIT: also would like to mention how you don't immediately die from falling off. HUGE QoL improvement

Owl (Father) is a shock to the system.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:59 PM PDT

I'm on my first playthrough and up until now it's been pretty easy. I wouldn't say I've breezed through it but I beat Genichiro after about 7 or 8 attempts, Guardian Ape on my first attempt, Headless Ape on my second attempt, Lady Butterfly about 6, Great Shinobi Owl 4 or 5 and the rest of them only about 1 to 3 attempts. So no real frustration.

But I've died about 20 times now on Owl (Father) and I haven't gotten him past 75% health. The difficulty spike is huge and it's completely demoralised me. I've had to take a break because I'm so frustrated.

I don't know if I should persevere or come back later once I've entered the Fountainhead Palace and done a few more bosses. I'm at 18 Vitality and 9 Attack Power. He's doing massive damage and I'm barely doing any.
