Fun bit of folklore trivia about the Great Carp (spoilers)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:34 AM PDT

As part of my ongoing research into Sekiro lore and references to mythology and folklore, I came across the story of the carp jumping the waterfall. This is a pretty well-known story (magicarp!), but it occurred to me that there's an interesting reversal of this imagery in Serkiro. Mainly that the Great Carp meets it's end not by ascending to the divine dragon, but by dying and falling down a waterfall. Literally the opposite of the legendary carp jump up a waterfall.

Nothing big, just thought there was maybe a bit of symbolism about the hubris of the Great Carp and the pot nobles who attempt to attain it.

I just defeated isshin the sword saint....

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 03:39 PM PDT

My hands are still shaking, it was literally my last try before I called it a night and what do you know I killed that old bastard. One of the best boss battles in my gaming history. The fight is literally everything you've learnt from the start to the finish and its crazy how the fights takes place where you would normally get destroyed by genchiro in the beginning. Just shows how far you've come as a shinobi. Great game. This was my second playthrough but I rushed my first one and got the Shura ending and all this time I felt like I ain't experienced the game properly. Might try go for the Purification ending soon. Thanks to this sub for the tips and tricks

    Sekiro Prequel

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 11:36 AM PDT

Sekiro has captured my imagination in a way few games have. The story is just so good and so tight, so allow me to outline my fan fiction Sekiro prequel, Way of Tomoe. (For the avoidance of doubt, this isn't something that exists and it never will.)

So, I was thinking you could do a pretty good game story of the previous version of the Samsaric cycle in Sekiro. But rather than playing Sekijo, you play Tomoe. This allows for different gameplay as she gains heretical powers (obviously lightning would have to play a big role) taking the place of prosthetic arts.

Some details: * Takeru is obviously the same age as Kuro and is Tomoe's master. * Genichiro is a teenager, keen to learn from Tomoe. * Isshin Ashina takes Genichiro's role, with Sekijo as his sidekick. Ashina Castle is not yet built, the lands of Ashina are not yet safe. * The principal hub is the tree where Takeru and Tomoe are inevitably buried. * Isshin beats Tomoe in an early fight, leaving her for dead. Dougen rescues her by implanting an immortality centipede. The initial proper area goes through Senpou temple and she learns what her inevitable fate is. * Sekijo's father orders him to break with Isshin, leading Sekijo to help Tomoe. Isshin is profoundly hurt and clearly deeply cares about Sekijo but accepts Sekijo must follow the Iron Code. * As things get increasingly difficult, Tomoe takes on more and more heretical powers that she had always rejected to protect Takeru. * ??? a bunch of more stuff you'd need to write ??? * Final battle: first phase Isshin, once he's beaten (not killed, obviously) he realizes the error of his ways, final boss Sekijo. After the final deathblow it enters an unwinnable Shura phase. When you lose, Isshin chops Sekijo's arm off. * Ending(s): obviously Takeru needs to have the immortality removed (ending variations are inevitable, but I'll call that canonical). * Isshin swears he will protect the Dragon's Blood until his dying day. * Tomoe tells Isshin he needs to decapitate her and remove the centipede (how Isshin survives the mortal blade I haven't figured out). * Isshin tells Sekijo that he must conquer his rage and suggests sculpting. * Genichiro tells Tomoe that he too, will gather as much power as he can and disregard notions of heresy. She replies "I fear I have been a bad teacher." (last words, obviously)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 02:28 PM PDT

I decided to fight headless for the first time, got my ass whooped a couple of times , then I took it serously , took some sugars used devine confetti and my pacifying agent ready. It went well, I was at the boss's second health and his posture bar was almost full, then I accidentaly die due to terror. I revive and there still seems to be a bit of terror on the bar. I think nothing of it and went in, motherfucker one shots me. And I have no devine confetti............help

Sekiro without kuro’s charm is a whole different beast

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 02:21 PM PDT

Until ng+4 I was killing bosses like flies and decided to no charm on ng+5. I made it to owl father and died a bunch of times unlike my last play through. To be honest the game is more rewarding this way. You try to perfect your block and if you mess up you loose half your health. Next play through I will go no charm & demon bell. Sekiro has a special place in my heart.

Why does my second revive only work occasionally?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 10:29 PM PDT

Bit of a noob question, I know, but the longer version of it is that I've had the second revive token uncovered by a brush stroke and fully filled up for quite a while now, but haven't been allowed to use it. By all means, it seems to be ready to use, but when I need to use it (against Mr. Lightning Boi because I still haven't figured out how to time the dodge for the lightning yet), it just doesn't trigger. It feels like it only gives it to me 1 out of 10 deaths, starting counting the moment it becomes fully charged.
