I have a big issue with Sekiro...

    Posted: 17 May 2020 07:42 PM PDT

A few weeks ago I finished playing Sekiro through NG+7. I have since moved on to other games and realized that the problem with Sekiro is that it fucking spoiled me! The fighting mechanics are perfect: its smooth, difficult, and incredibly rewarding when you succeed.

I was partway through AC Origins when I stopped and started Sekiro; now that I'm done with Sekiro and came back to AC Origins I find that I don't really enjoy it anymore. The combat just feels stale compared to Sekiro. I also tried Dark Souls 3 and found the combat to be really clunky. I know these games should be good, their reviews are great and I have enjoyed action RPGs my whole life, but Sekiro is such a good game that it ruined other games for me!

I know that Sekiro is a one-of-a-kind game, but is there anything else out there that is somewhat similar in its game mechanics? I was thinking of trying Nioh until I realized it's not available for Xbox.

SEKIROT is spot on with the Guardian Ape

This is quite confusing to me. How can .1% more players have the 'Shura' achievement when that requires to defeat Isshin, therefore obtaining the achievement 'Isshin Ashina'. Logically less people would have 'Shura' if for example they Alt+F4 after beating Isshin or at least the same amount as they

I finally beat DoH AP 1 DB and no prosthetic. Feels good.

    Posted: 17 May 2020 01:27 PM PDT

I made a playlist going over every boss in the game as tutorials! Hope it helps a fellow shinobi out!

    Finally beat the game

    Posted: 17 May 2020 11:14 PM PDT

So after a few months and getting a new PC I started all over again since I never actually beat Isshin in my initial play through.

And now I finally did it. I actually got him the first time I went phase 3. And it was fucking intense. lol

Also that last scene when Emma gives Sekiro the shinobi prosthetic blew my mind.

Thank you FromSoft for this super cool game. Next stop: 100% achievements.

    Some Shichimen Warrior lore/theories

    Posted: 17 May 2020 03:33 PM PDT

I tried to compile some interesting explanations and theories surrounding this creepy and mysterious Apparition. Below are my findings:

Now, whereas the Headless is "just" a fat and headless corpse, the Shichimen Warrior is an……entirely different thing. As far as I'm aware, it is never, ever referred to in the game. No dialogue, no item descriptions, nothing. It is mentioned in a small memo, but it is just referred to as an Apparition, angry spirits with many faces. However, it does reveal some obscure lore that I'll talk about a bit later. I think that the Shichimen Warrior might be inspired by the Shichinin Misaki (7 spirits), an infamous group of seven samurai ghosts. Meeting these spirits always results in disaster, as people who encounter them die shortly after, usually due to a sudden and mysterious fever. They are always encountered near sources of water, just like the Shichimen Warrior (two of them are found in dank caves, the last one is fought near a waterfall). If one of the seven spirits kills a person, they are set free. In turn, the person they killed becomes their replacement. This way, the Shichinin Misaki will always consist of seven members.

The multiple faces of the Shichimen Warrior are actually menpo, face masks that were worn by samurai. The Warrior also wears other pieces of samurai armor, such as a breastplate, and multiple patches of armor to protect their nether regions and upper legs. I'm not sure what is wrapped around its waist, but it does look like human intestines…. Curiously, their breastplate is modeled after a starving monk, or an emaciated inhabitant of the realm of hungry ghosts (the worst type of rebirth in Buddhist cosmology, besides hell itself). Although I'm not sure why it has exactly such a breastplate, it is quite similar to the evenly emaciated, blood-red right part of their skin. Actually the left side of their torso is fully protected, while the right part appears to be completely flayed and red, similar to a starving oni. The fact that they have wild black hair and red demonic face masks on the right part of their….non-existent face, seems like their body is split between that of a samurai, and an oni. The red masks are actually their true face, as evidenced by using the Puppeteer Ninjutsu skill on them. The staff that it wields also has oni motifs, as it has downward curving and upward curving horns on respectively the bottom and top of the staff, along with what seems like facial markings (?) on it. The staff ends in a blade at the top, making it a dangerous weapon that can be used for both magic and combat. It also wears a helmet with a centipede design on top of the red face masks, which has some lore significance. In Shinto, the folk religion of Japan, centipedes are associated with kegare, (spiritual) pollution and defilement, just like death and childbirth. Furthermore, centipedes in Sekiro are associated with immortality, and the moral corruption that Genichiro and the monks in Senpou Temple are willing to undergo in their quest for immortality. As the Shichimen is most likely an undead amalgamation of vengeful spirits, centipedes are quite fitting for them.

Additionally, these abominations are always found in places associated with death: The mass burial site in the Abandoned Dungeon, the den of the Guardian Ape (where the souls of its victims linger) in Ashina Depths, and the Fountainhead Palace (most likely the fused form of the souls that were claimed by the Okami warriors and the Palace Nobles). The second Shimichen Warrior, found in the Ashina Depths, does have some lore significance: as it drops the Malcontent Ring, it can be assumed that the spirit of the Sculptor's former partner, Kingfisher was among them. They were the original owner of the Finger Whistle, but likely ended up being devoured by the Guardian Ape. That's why you obtain the FW after defeating the Ape, and you later find the Malcontent Ring after beating the SW in the Ape's burrow.

What the fuck is my goal in this game?

    Posted: 17 May 2020 10:55 PM PDT

It feels like barely anything is explained. The game is fun, but it soon turns frustrating as fuck when I don't even know where I'm going, what my goal is, what the "mission" is. Its just bullshit after bullshit enemies. Is it even worth killing this general? Is it even worth fighting this speargod? I dont fucking know because there is no journal or questlog for some reason?
