TLDR; Seven Spears is cake. Pls help with Father.

I was here like 3 days ago talking about how Seven Spears was the bane of my existence.

I went on to slam his ass into the ground immediately after posting here. Not just his, but every following boss save for The Headless that i encountered, because nope. Genichiro, The Ape, Double Ape, Owl, Corrupted Monk... But then I opted to find the Everblossom. I knew what I was getting into, but after beating him the first time after 3 or 4 tries i thought hey, ill be good.

I was not good. I am not good. I will NEVER be good. Jk. But seriously, I come to you, fellow shinobi, in my time of need. Help me with your best tips to beat Owl Father and end my daddy issues once and for all.

2nd run on PS4 for Platinum after playing on PC. Still one of my favorite boss battles in a video game. The setting, the music, the difficulty... This game is perfection!!

    Little talk on Genichiro?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:39 PM PDT

So, this is my first playthrough and I just beat Genichiro. I was kinda stressed, seeing as he was a wall for a lot of players until I actually fought him. His fight was real fun and dare I say, kinda easy compared to some of the previous enemies I have met. I now really understand what some meant when saying he was a skill check and it seems like my skills were adequate since I got through his first 2 phases only using 1 gourd (this ego of mine will soon be knocked down, that's for sure).

So yeah, Genichiro makes sure that you stop frenetically dodging, understand how to counter perilous attacks for maximum posture damage and finally, when to attack. But one thing I kinda thought, was that my previous enemies were basically easing me into this fight. Oniwa showed me that at least some attacks needed to be blocked if it didn't want to be turned into a kebab, then Lady B showed me that the real bar I should be focusing on should be posture, since whittling away her vitality is a chore. Then, 7 ashina spears taught me how some of the scariest attacks can not only be deflected, but also Mikiri countered or jumped over for major posture damage while the Ashina Elite showed me that deflections can be the bane of a powerful enemy.

Roll all those lessons into one and you get Genichiro. He also adds the extra knowledge that just because a combo was deflected it doesn't mean that an opening was made. So yeah, I just waited for Genichiro to approach, deflected all I could, mikiri'd or jumped when possible to create an opening and the boss went down quicker than I thought it would. The third phase was a little more brutal but the thunder was really a big help when I correctly understood how to counter it.

Basically, if you didn't cheese your way through the previous bosses, Genichiro doesn't show anything new and basically becomes a fun fight. Or at least, that's what it felt like to me. What are your thoughts on this?
