Third time's a charm or how I learned to stop Soulsborne-ing and become a Shinobi

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 09:18 PM PDT

I bought the game at launch and couldn't stand it. I have beaten all of Fromsoft's games multiple times and came into Sekiro expecting Souls. I was wrong and got stuck on the horse guy.

I came back a month later and made my way to Lady Butterfly but still I was not enjoying myself. All instances of combat had me feeling like I was never getting stronger as I had become accustomed to in previous Fromsoft titles.

Then I had an epiphany. In this game we're meant to fight dirty. We're not stalwart knights, not noble hunters, we are goddamned ninjas. We don't have big fuck off hammers that hit like a freight train or allies to pull agro. What we do have is pocket sand and an arm full of cheap shots.

The moment that I started playing like a cheap bastard I started seeing the openings. The moment I made use of the openings my hesitation was gone. The moment my hesitation was gone the combat began to flow.

I am /u/rosssauced and I just toppled Glock Saint Ishiin for the first time because I learned to stop hesitating and love the arm.

When I first looked at this I thought it was one of the Senpou Temple monks.

One of the most enjoyable boss to dodge attack. 0:55 HE GOES BIG BRAIN

What just happened? I was running away from the monkeys and performed a Shinobi Execution. How?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:08 AM PDT

I hope I can get an seer without getting the game spoiled for me. Pretty much I was fighting the monkeys, who I thought were just a mini boss. I got 3 of them but couldn't find the last one and kept running around for like 10 minutes trying to find it. Eventually I reached some stairs and it said "Shinobi Execution."

I have no idea what happened. I didn't attack anybody, nor did I see anybody yet I got the massage and was able to level up the main character.

Can someone explain what happened without spoiling the rest of the game please?

    Great Shinobi Owl

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:58 PM PDT

Just wondering how many tries it took you to beat the Great Shinobi Owl on your first play through? I've already given it a solid 20 attempts over the past 2 days and i still cant beat him. i can barely make it to his second stage with more than 3 healing gourds (i have 8). It took me about 25-30tries over 3 days to beat the guardian ape, and this guy seems easier but he seems to hit me in stupid ways and he does so much damage with each hit.

So. I may have done an oopsie

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:30 PM PDT

Just to be clear, I myself have beat the game 9 times, love it to pieces, favorite game, 100% achievements, yada yada.

The story is, a few months ago a friend and I decided to swap our favorite games of all time just for fun and to stimulate more gaming conversations. He gave me Kotor 2, which is a story and dialogue driven Star Wars game (would highly recommend to anyone who even remotely enjoys story, best writing I've ever seen in a video game.) And I gave him Sekiro. I gave a predominately story game player possibly the hardest video game in modern gaming history.

At first he was doing quite well; I give him tips and pointers to avoid unnecessary bs, as he did for me, and though there were points of struggle he actually beat some of the early game bosses quicker than I did. But then he got to the Guardian Ape.

    It's been 3 months.

He tries pretty consistently, and has recently been getting to the second stage a few times, but it's really kicking his ass. I know he's going to get it in the near future if he really goes at it, but mentally it's really dragging him, and he's getting very daunted just thinking of the fights to come afterwards. I was wondering if any of you guys had any major tips for certain points of the fight or motivation concerning the game in general. Anything's appreciated
