As a father of two I didn’t think I’d be able to beat this game let alone platinum it. I’m going to focus on my photo skills next.

After approx. 60 deaths i managed to beat Sword Saint Isshin with Demon bell and without Kuro's charm

I hate this guy. He even starts out the fight giving you this smug look. (I thankfully beat him on the third try though. Fire cracker in first phase helps)

Pro Gamer Tip regarding acquiring all skills

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:53 PM PDT

    Maybe it's been said..maybe it hasn't.

Don't waste your points on leveling up attack power. I used probably 30 and now I'm paying for it. I'm speedrunning the game trying to get to higher NG+ levels so I can grind xp at the end game in the antechamber. I'm 9 1/2 skill points away from completion and my current skill point cost is around 165,000.

Don't spend skill points on power until you've acquired all the skills!

Analysis of My First Sekiro Playthrough

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 01:24 PM PDT

    TL;DR

    • The game "clicked" for me while facing the Nightjar Ninjas and the Fencers. Genichiro made me hone those skills even more, but he felt more like an extension of that "click" instead of being the cause of it;

Ranking the LOCATIONS (+ to -):

Fountainhead Palace, Senpou Temple, Ashina Depths, Hirata Estate, Sunken Valley, Ashina Outskirts, Ashina Reservoir, Abandoned Dungeon

Ranking the BOSSES (+ to -):

Owl (Father), Genichiro Ashina, Guardian Ape, Great Shinobi Owl, Lady Butterfly, True Corrupted Monk, Divine Dragon, Isshin (Sword Saint), Gyoubu, Demon of Hatred, Headless Ape, Folding Screen Monkeys, Corrupted Monk

Ranking the PROSTHETIC TOOLS (+ to -):

Loaded Umbrella, Flame Vent, Shinobi Firecracker, Loaded Axe, Loaded Shuriken, Mist Raven, Sabimaru, Loaded Spear, Finger Whistle and Divine Abduction

    END of TL; DR

After beating Isshin and unlocking the Purification ending, I finished my first playthrough. It took a bit under 2 weeks (tomorrow will mark the 2nd week since I bought the game). Now, I am left to think about the journey, with the promise to get back for a NG+ run, some day down the line.

    • WHEN THE GAME "CLICKED": I was climbing through Ashina Castle's Rooftops and, after facing the Nightjar Ninjas outside and the Fencers inside, I started feeling really comfortable with the core rhythms of the combat. Then, Genichiro came and forced me to hone my skills even more to "git gud".

    • LOCATIONS:

Positive : Fountainhead Temple. It surpasses "Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo" just barely. After beating Great Shinobi Owl and True Corrupted Monk, this location felt like a reward in itself. The gorgeous aesthetics, greater emphasis on stealth and very special enemies made this a highlight arriving at the right point (an extra motivation to keep you going). The area also concludes with a very accessible but cinematic boss fight that gives you a bit of breathing room to enjoy the epic scale.

Negative: Abandoned Dungeon. If this area had been more developed, it would easily pass several others. Instead, it felt like such a disappointment, because the atmosphere is very unique. In my opinion, it needed more relevance to the story, via small connections to an eventual Ashina plot. The bottomless hole could have been replaced by a more nuanced path towards the Depths, in which you would see increasingly disturbing experiments left in the lower, supposedly inaccessible layers of the Dungeon. It was really a shame.

    • BOSSES:

Positive: Owl (Father) is my favorite fight in the game. It felt like a true fight between two Shinobi, with each one using every trick at his disposal. Moreover, this was a very special fight for me because of the drastic change in tactics it promoted: my first few attempts saw me being defensive and overwhelmed by him, while my last attempt involved me giving Owl no relief, pushing him against the wall and running towards him like a confident bastard whenever he attempted an escape.

Two honorable mentions: one for Genichiro Ashina and another for Guardian Ape - these fights complete my Top 3.

Negative : Corrupted Monk, while not being a bad fight per se, feels like an unnecessary fight. Of course, that shrine in Mibu needed to be guarded by something, but it could have been the village's priest, for example, who would assault you with magic powers associated with the Rejuvenating Waters inside the cave itself. NOTE: Not to be confused with the True Corrupted Monk, who actually ranks higher in my list

One dishonorable mention: Folding Screen Monkeys. I get what they were going for and the concept is truly original and clever, but it just wasn't well executed. A first experience just looks like a random experience instead of a more nuanced one. It felt disappointing in that regard, but it stays above Corrupted Monk for the originality.

    • PROSTHETIC TOOLS:

Positive : Loaded Umbrella felt like the most essential tool in my arsenal of prosthetics. Its upgrades make it versatile to guard against several types of damage, so it saved my life against a lot of enemies: the Headless and Shichimen Apparitions, the Headless Ape and the Demon of Hatred, not to mention other small uses along the way, like the moment in which you cross the bridge at the Gun Fort. Simply put, it's fantastic!

Negative : Divine Abduction is a tool that felt pretty useless. I only used it on an NPC's questline, but outside of that, I just tried it against a fodder enemy and quickly forgot about it. Not much more to say about it.

    Isshin’s pistol

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 11:03 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone has a image of isshins repeating pistol he uses in his sword saint fight. I have never seen it close up and it's the only repeating gun that I know of in the game.
