[Lost in Translation]Lore Tidbits about Minor Bosses

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:17 PM PDT

For reference, this is the japanese wiki I got the item descriptions from.

Contrary to the West, the surname comes before the name in japanese. The translators therefore inverted the order on the titlecard of most bosses, while weirdly leaving intact those of some other. This creates a bit of confusion, because based of the japanese text, it's very clear that one of the most notorious families in Ashina are the Yamauchi (ๅฑฑๅ†…):

    • Yamauchi Shigenori (ๅฑฑๅ†…้‡ๅ‰‡) is the captain of the troops that guard the Outskirt at the start of the game.

    • Yamauchi Tenzen (ๅฑฑๅ†…ๅ…ธ่†ณ) is the samurai general found alongside his men after the Chained Ogre.

    • Yamauchi Shikibu Toshikatsu (ๅฑฑๅ†…ๅผ้ƒจๅˆฉๅ‹) has managed to became one of (the few surviving) seven spears of Ashina, Isshin's most thrustworthy warriors.

Speaking of seven spears, the last one found in the game, Oniwa Shume Masaji (้ฌผๅบญไธป้ฆฌ้›…ๆฌก), is most likely a relative of Gyobu (้ฌผๅฝข้ƒจ).

Also using the same kanji for Oni (้ฌผ) is the Chained Ogre (่ตค้ฌผ), whose name is simply Red Oni. Interestingly though, the description of the second Prayer Necklace, which makes mention of such creature, is worded way differently in the original:

"In Ashina, there's a gigantic man called Red Oni How did he get Red Eyes and go insane? It is said that we was imprisoned in an abandoned dungeon..."

This was clearly meant to be foreshadowing Dojun and his research.

Just like Dojun is inconsistently written as Doujun between dialogues and item descriptions, the various translators used different words for the term Acquatic (ๆฐด็”Ÿ), dissipating the links between the Mibu Village (ๆฐด็”Ÿๆ‘) and some characters:

    • The title of O'Rin (ๆฐด็”ŸใฎใŠๅ‡œ) would be "of Mibu", but was directly translated as "of the Water", which makes no sense in the context of the game.

    • The correct name of Ujinari Mizuo (ๆฐด็”Ÿๆฐๆˆ) clearly states that he too comes from the Mibu Village.

Lastly, the original descriptions make mentions of historical elements that are nowhere to be found in the translation:

    • The Red Guard that Shigekichi belong to is the "Akazonae" (่ตคๅ‚™ใˆ), an army of elite troops.

    • In the eighth Prayer Necklace the kanji that was translated to "Interior Ministry" is ๅ†…ๅบœ, which specifically means the Minister of the Interior instead.

    • The nineth Prayer Necklace specifies that the Armored Warrior is either of Portuguese or Spanish origin, as the kanji that describes him is ๅ—่›ฎ, which in the context of the Sengoku era could only refer to one of the two.

    Owl father firecrackers

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:48 AM PDT

Seriously fuck those things. I have everything else down in this fight and the one time he didn't use firecrackers in phase 1 I got him to phase 2. But that was once out of maybe 30 tries. How the actual fuck am I supposed to reliably dodge those firecrackers?

    DEATHLESS

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:08 PM PDT

Just managed to complete my first deathless run. Never thought I would be able to do it. Does anyone know if the game gets harder the less you die? Isshin felt a lot harder than in the other playtrough I used for practice. Or maybe it was just my nerves getting in the way!

Aerial double ichimonji + firecrackers + mortal draw are carrying me through this game...

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:29 AM PDT

This is my first playthrough, and I haven't found a need to use anything else...

I've used the spear on a few niche occasions, same as the flame vent. But otherwise jump + double ichimonji and firecrackers is basically OP for everything. Oh and mortal draw on bosses

I have not touched divine abduction, whistle, umbrella, sabimaru etc.

I tried using other combat arts, including whirlwind slash and nightjar slash...they sucked

If I do a NG+ I might try to only use those 3 when needed. What other skills/prosthetics are worth experimenting with ?

Considering old Isshin's body is up in Kuro's room, does this mean there are now two dead Isshins? Are they gonna have to dig two graves for one man?

did any of you break your shoulder button while playing sekiro?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:03 AM PDT

it didn't break when i was playing it but i think it shortened the life of it significantly because i'm not sure when but my xbox one controller has a left shoulder button that doesn't register 30% of the time now. it has to have been from playing sekiro.
